Oklahoma City Thunder’s bench helped them rally back from a slow start in Game 3 to take a 2-1 series lead in the Western Conference Finals. Now the San Antonio Spurs face a crucial home game as they aim to avoid falling 3-1 down.
The Spurs won only two fewer games than the Thunder in the regular season, but their Game 1 victory felt necessary for the young side to prove they could compete with the champions.
San Antonio won four of the five regular-season meetings to mark them out as potential champions, and their successive defeats to the Thunder won’t have dimmed optimism that Victor Wembanyama and co. can lift the trophy in their first tilt in the NBA Playoffs.
In a way, this is also a prove-it series for the champions. For all their success since the 2023/24 campaign, this is the Thunder’s first series against a 60+ win team.
After OKC cruised through the first two rounds without a loss, they have been dragged into a real series.
With two key players in their rotation potentially missing out, the Thunder look vulnerable against a Spurs side desperate to square the series.
After San Antonio’s Game 3 defeat, Victor Wembanyama didn’t dodge any blame. The Frenchman, who went from 41 rebounds across the first two meetings to just four, took responsibility and he’s vowed to help his teammates moving forward.
Wemby pointed to his record on the glass and his lack of facilitating as issues he needs to urgently address. He paired six assists with 17 rebounds in Game 2, and he needs to be that involved again as he targets a Game 4 victory.
The French ace has still averaged 15 rebounds in the series, and he’s hit that number in six of his last nine appearances. He’s contributed at least three assists in four of his last five appearances, so hitting a combined 17 assists and rebounds looks do-able in Game 4.
The Thunder traded for Caruso due to his dogged defending, but the former LA Laker leads the team in three-point attempts in the postseason.
Caruso has been huge for OKC in this series, recording 31, 17, and 15 points across the first three meetings. He has hit at least three threes in four consecutive playoff games, and he should carry more of an offensive burden with Mitchell removed from the Thunder bench options.
Take Caruso to trouble the Spurs once more, with the guard priced at +230 to record 15 points or more once again.

Jalen Williams has been listed as questionable for the Thunder, after he exited Game 2 after just seven minutes before missing Game 3 entirely.
Williams could join Ajay Mitchell on the sidelines, as the Belgian guard has been ruled out of Sunday’s key game.
The Spurs have a clean bill of health for this one, with De’Aaron Fox and Dylan Harper both available despite the issues they have been carrying through the series.
