Sheffield United are reportedly set to make their first signing of the 2026/27 summer transfer window in the form of Brentford forward Romelle Donovan.
Mike McGrath of The Daily Telegraph reported that the 19-year-old right-winger is set to have a medical ahead of a 'one-season loan' switch to the Blades after the two clubs came to an agreement.
The temporary switch marks a shot at regular senior football for Donovan, who made nine appearances in all competitions for Keith Andrews' Brentford in the 2025/26 season.
The forward enjoyed 10 years in the Birmingham City academy and was handed his senior debut for the Blues under the stewardship of Wayne Rooney in October 2023 at the age of 16.
In a bid to gain first team experience, Donovan joined League One outfit Burton Albion in August of 2024, but he was recalled by his parent club in the December after playing just 176 minutes over six games in the third tier.
On deadline day of the 2024/25 January transfer window, Brentford agreed to sign the winger on loan for the remainder of the term with a view to giving him minutes with the B side.
Donovan scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists in 15 games for Brentford B and the Bees opted to sign the talented prospect for an initial £3m fee.
After bedding into the first team setup in West London, a loan move to the Steel City will provide an opportunity for the Birmingham-born forward to play senior football in a division that could test him physically.
As for the Blades, Donovan's arrival will mark the first addition in what is expected to be a busy summer as they look to build on a severely underwhelming 13th-placed finish.
