Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly interested in signing a former Sheffield United forward this summer.
Louie Barry, 23, spent time on loan at Bramall Lane last season but only made nine appearances before returning to his parent club Aston Villa.
Wednesday have had prior interest in the former Barcelona youth player, interest that The Star are reporting has been reignited in the midst of the relentless recruitment drive currently being undertaken at Hillsborough.
"The Star understands Wednesday are interested in making the deal a permanent one - though all possibilities are open at this stage. What level of fee it would take to secure Barry is unknown," said journalist Alex Miller.
"Reports in the summer of 2025 suggested a switch to Hull City worth £3.5m had collapsed - the Owls are working to financial restrictions and it is likely any fee would be some way lower than that this time around."
The Owls have already made four summer signings and new additions appear to be imminent. A deal for returning hero Barry Bannan has been mooted for some time, as well as a swoop for Leeds United youngster Harry Gray.
Recruiters have been hard at work after Wednesday suffered relegation from the Championship last term.
Crippled by financial punishments and points deductions, Henrik Pedersen's side finished rock bottom of the second tier after picking up just two wins from their 46 matches. However, with new ownership in place, they will experience no such punishment next season and are aiming to secure an immediate return to the Championship.
Barry, at least at his best, would be a great help to the cause.
In 2024/25, Barry netted 15 goals in just 23 League One starts for Stockport before being recalled by his parent club and sent back out on loan to Championship side Hull.
He hasn't quite hit those heights since but clearly has the talent to help Wednesday justify odds of 9/4 to head straight back up.
