New Rangers boss Derek McInnes is shaping his Ibrox backroom team and club legend Allan McGregor is the latest addition after taking up the role of goalkeeping coach.
McInnes succeeded Danny Rohl in the Gers hotseat after the former incumbent moved to Red Bull Salzburg.
The ex-Hearts boss has now brought in McGregor, who played more than 500 games for the Light Blues, following the news that previous goalkeeping coach Sal Bibbo had agreed a move to Premier League newcomers Coventry City.
McGregor previously worked as a coach at Rangers during Barry Ferguson's interim stint as manager in 2025.
The return of McGregor is sure to please the natives in Govan. He joined the Light Blues as a 16-year-old in 1998 and made his first-team debut in a 3-0 Scottish Cup win over Forfar Athletic in February 2002 under Alex McLeish.
He won three Scottish Premier League titles in his first spell at the club, alongside three Scottish Cups and five League Cup successes.
McGregor was also part of the squad that reached the 2008 UEFA Cup final in Manchester under the late Walter Smith, but injury denied him the chance to feature in the 2-0 final defeat to Zenit St Petersburg.
When Rangers went into administration in 2012 and were demoted to the bottom tier of Scottish football, McGregor escaped from his contract to become a free agent and had spells at Besiktas, Hull City and Cardiff City before an Ibrox return in 2018 soon after Steven Gerrard had been installed as manager.
He won his fifth Scottish Premiership title in 2020-21 as Rangers stopped Celtic's quest for ten in a row during an unbeaten behind-closed-door league campaign.
He added a fourth Scottish Cup in 2021-22 via an extra-time defeat of Hearts at Hampden Park and was between the posts in the Europa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt in May 2022 as Rangers lost on penalties in Seville.
McGregor made a record 109 European appearances for Rangers and played his 500th game in April 2023.
The club confirmed he would be leaving that summer and he was given a testimonial against Newcastle United in July 2023 with more than 50,000 at Ibrox for the occasion.
McInnes was appointed as Rangers manager in June on a three-year deal. He was part of Rangers' 'nine-in-a-row' title winners in the 1990s under Smith and Dick Advocaat and had long been touted as a potential Ibrox boss.
Upon his unveiling McInnes said his return to Rangers was "special" and a "privilege" adding that: "The club is something that has always been huge in my life growing up."
The former St Johnstone, Bristol City, Aberdeen, Kilmarnock and Hearts gaffer has promised to win the Scottish Premiership title "as soon as possible", with the Gers 13/8 to be crowned champions in 2026/27.
His time at Tynecastle ended in agony as the Jambos were pipped to the title in May by Celtic after one of the most remarkable stories in modern Scottish football.
The Jambos topped the table from September and were on course to become the first non-Old Firm champions in four decades, but they were overhauled when Daizen Maeda sealed a come-from-behind win for Martin O'Neill's Celtic at Parkhead on the final day of the season.
McInnes' next public appearance would come some weeks later as he was unveiled as the new Rangers boss.
McInnes has been busy in the transfer market already, with Hearts' top goalscorer last term, Lawrence Shankland, making the move to his boyhood heroes alongside McInnes.
Ross McCrorie has re-joined Rangers from Bristol City, while defender Ben Godfrey has been signed from Atalanta on a season-long loan deal.
Goalkeeper Jack Butland confirmed he was departing and is now set to join Hull, with Rangers announcing the signing of Ivor Pandur on a four-year deal from the Tigers on Tuesday, subject to international clearance.
Croatian Pandur will now be working closely with another former Hull custodian as McGregor reacquaints himself with the training ground at Auchenhowie.
