Founded in 1904, Hull City AFC emerged out of one of the most passionate rugby league cities in England but quickly established a passionate local following and were admitted into the second division the following year.
In the ensuing decades the Tigers enjoyed mixed fortunes but never managed to secure entry in the first division, leading Hull to become known as the biggest city in the country never to have had a top-flight team.
City finally secured passage into the Premier League via the play-offs in 2008 and went on to play European football during the 2015/16 season after reaching the FA Cup final the previous year. Since then, the club were an EFL club up until their promotion to the Premier League in the 2025/26 season.
