Charlton Athletic fans were delighted to stay up in the Championship last season after winning the League One playoffs and although last term was a struggle at times, many of them will be surprised that they have won their opening three matches.
Wins over Derby County, West Ham and Preston North End put them top of the table, but they face a difficult game at West Brom, who won their opening two matches before a 3-1 defeat at Middlesbrough.
Each of the Baggies’ five matches this season have featured at least three goals and there looks like a decent chance that these two in-form outfits will be able to dish up a treat at The Hawthorns in the Championship.
Best Bet - Over 2.5 goals @ 10/11
Alternative Bet - Lloyd Jones to have a shot on target @ 4/1
Bet Builder - Charlton to score, Isaac Price to have a shot on target and Ousmane Diakite to be booked @ 12/1
Best Bet: Over 2.5 goals @ 10/11
Relegation was a little too close for comfort for both West Brom and Charlton last season, but they have made strong starts to the campaign.
The Baggies have suffered defeats to Newcastle and Middlesbrough in their last two matches, but only one of their five outings this season has been at home and they will be hungry to bounce back in front of their own fans.
That should encourage a positive performance from the Baggies and there looks a good chance that Charlton will also be able to play their part.
Six of the Addicks’ last eight games have featured at least three goals and Nathan Jones’ side can prove a big threat, so odds of 11/10 that there are more than two successful strikes in Wednesday’s game look attractive.
Alternative Bet: Lloyd Jones to have a shot on target @ 4/1
While striker Karlan Grant would love to score against his former club on his return to The Hawthorns, Charlton’s chief threat tends to come from set pieces.
That is where towering central defender Lloyd Jones comes into his own, and he has already made his mark this season, scoring in the opening win over Derby, the opener in the 2-1 success at West Ham and also heading home a consolation in the 5-1 EFL Cup defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.
Another goal may be a distant hope, but he is the target for many of the Addicks’ free-kicks and corners and he looks a big price to at least test the Albion keeper.
Charlton to score
Isaac Price to have a shot on target
Ousmane Diakite to be booked
Pays @ 12/1
Charlton should certainly be positive after winning their opening three games and Jones’ side have failed to score in just two of their last 17 outings, so while they have been by no means prolific, they do know where the goal is and they can find the net on their trip to the West Midlands.
An away goal looks a solid base for a Bet Builder selection, and there looks to be a strong chance Albion’s Isaac Price will have a shot on target.
The midfielder has scored four times this season, including both the Baggies’ goals in the 3-2 EFL Cup defeat to Newcastle and he has registered ten shots on target in five appearances this term.
His colleague Ousmane Diakite could, however, pick up a booking. The 26-year-old has been cautioned in three of his five games in the current campaign and could come to the referee’s attention once again.
