Luton Town v Stockport County Prediction: Hosts may have to settle for 13/5 draw

Luton Town were humbled by Mansfield on Sunday, losing 5-2, meaning Jack Wilshere's side only have one win from their first three League One games - the stunning 4-3 comeback against Reading on the opening weekend.

Despite their slow start, Luton are still fancied to be promotion contenders this season and will be keen to put on a much-improved display when they host Stockport County in midweek.

Stockport, meanwhile, have had a solid start, beating Plymouth 3-1 first up, before a narrow 2-1 loss to Blackpool was followed by Saturday's impressive 5-1 home victory over Wycombe Wanderers.

Luton Town v Stockport County Prediction

Best Bet: Draw @ 13/5

Luton were among the automatic promotion favourites in League One this summer and are still rated 6/1 second favourites to win League One, behind 4/1 Leicester, despite their disappointing start.

They demonstrated their quality and spirit on the opening weekend when coming from 3-1 down at half-time to win 4-3 at Reading but that superb second-half effort remains the high point of a difficult first few weeks for the Hatters.

A 2-2 home draw with Notts County was swiftly followed by an EFL Cup exit at the hands of Chelsea and, while that result was no disgrace, Sunday's 5-2 setback at Mansfield will have set the alarm bells ringing, even at this early stage of the campaign.

Wilshere's side were 3-0 down at the break and 5-0 behind after 56 minutes before belatedly showing some fight late on with a couple of consolation goals.

They have the worst defensive record in the division, having conceded 10 goals in just three games, and need to get their act together soon if they are to live up to the positive pre-season predictions.

A home win over Stockport would be welcome then, but this is another testing fixture against opponents who have won two of their first three league games and one that comes into Wednesday's clash after trouncing Wycombe 5-1 at the weekend.

Luton are sure to respond to their Mansfield humiliation but a draw might be all they can manage against a confident County.

Alternative Bet: Nahki Wells to score anytime @ 6/4

Wilshere will be pondering changes after the shocking result last time out and one man who should get a recall to the Luton starting line-up is Nahki Wells.

The forward has come off the bench in the last two games but starred as a sub late on with two goals at Mansfield, so he really has done all he can to persuade his manager to put his trust in him again from the start.

Wells, who scored a creditable 10 goals in all competitions last season, already has four this term, having also notched in the EFL Cup first round win over Gillingham and then the 2-2 draw with Notts County.

Luton Town v Stockport County Bet Builder Tip

  • Both teams to score

  • Over 2 total goals

  • Harry Wood to score anytime

  • Over 10 corners

    10/1

The first two selections for the Bet Builder are for both teams to score and over two goals in this Kenilworth Road clash.

Those two outcomes have occurred in all six league games Luton and Stockport have been involved in so far this season, so we should expect that pattern to continue.

For a goalscorer pick, Harry Wood stood out for Stockport in their big win over Wycombe, scoring twice, so he can be backed to add to his early-season tally in midweek.

Finally, adding in over 10 corners seems logical considering there were 11 corners in Luton's defeat at Mansfield, which followed on from 11 as well in their draw with Notts County.

Similarly, there were a total of 11 corners awarded in Stockport's victory over Wycombe, while 16 corners were taken in County's defeat to Blackpool.
