Bruno Guimarães revealed he “needed a new challenge in my life” after leaving Newcastle United to join Arsenal in a deal worth £75 million.
One of the Premier League's most complete midfielders, the 28-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the Gunners that contains a further one-year option.
It's yet another statement of intent from Arsenal, who are keen to reiterate they will not rest on their laurels after finally landing an elusive Premier League crown last season.
Guimarães' departure is a bitter blow to Newcastle, who were reluctant to sell their influential captain, but the former Lyon ace had made it abundantly clear that he wanted to join the Premier League champions after meeting the club’s new manager, Matthias Jaissle.

Guimarães is expected to play a prominent role for Arteta, and the Gunners have already hinted at their desire to maximise the Brazilian as both a six and an eight.
Speaking to Arsenal's media team, Guimarães said: “I feel good, I feel amazing. I’m glad for the opportunity.
“Since the first time I spoke to (Andrea) Berta and Mikel (Arteta) I was excited. I just felt inside of me that I need a new challenge in my life and I think to be an Arsenal player is going to be an exciting challenge in my life.
“I think after playing two World Cups, I’m at the point of my life, I think I need a challenge like this.
“I want to win trophies, I want to make history and I think I’m in the right place to do it. I’m so excited to start.
We have tough games to play this season so the squad is going to be very, very important and I’m hopeful we can achieve our dreams.
Arsenal were still in the mix for an unprecedented Quadruple in early March when defeat to Manchester City in the EFL Cup final was compounded by a shock loss to Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
The Gunners stayed on track in the Premier League and even reached a second UEFA Champions League final, only to relinquish a one-goal lead to Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest.
Arteta and Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta will hope the acquisition of Guimarães will improve their prospects in cup competitions.
