Defending champion Daryz heads the betting for the 106th running of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
The mile-and-a-half Longchamp feature is the absolute pinnacle of middle distance racing in Europe and boasts a roll of honour to match any contest on the planet.
From famous wins for Mill Reef and Sea The Stars, all the way way through to Enable's historic double in the late 2010s, the Arc has thrown up countless moments that will forever remain within the fabric of global racing.
A star-studded field of 16 go to post on Sunday, all with a chance of writing their own chapter in history.
Daryz (6/4) is the only place to start as he aims to become the first colt to retain his Arc crown since Alleged all the way back in the late 1980s.
Handed a favourable draw in five, he was fantastic when winning this race last year and arrives in good form after dishing out a comprehensive beating of Bay City Roller in the Prix Foy on Trials Day. It was a win that extended his magnificent record at Longchamp to seven wins from eight starts, including three Group 1s.
The ground expected in Paris this weekend will be to his liking and the only major blots on his copybook have come when he has travelled over to the UK.
Should he throw in an uncharacteristic blunder this weekend, then William Haggas will be hoping that his star three-year-old Maltese Cross (9/2) can capitalise. His victory in the Great Voltigeur back in August signalled that he is rapidly improving and the weight allowances that he gets at three will be of great benefit to him. His father, Sea The Stars, won the Arc back in 2009 and Haggas is out to avenge Sea The Class' heartbreaking defeat to Enable in 2018.
While gate 11 isn't ideal, it isn't insurmountable, but will take something special from Tom Marquand in the saddle.
One that did receive a favourable draw is UK-based filly Kalpana (6/1), back for more after running seventh 12 months ago. Andrew Balding's flagship filly recorded the biggest success of her career when landing the King George earlier this summer but, whilst very talented, is vulnerable to a real, real top drawer rival. She runs in the iconic colours of Juddmonte, who have an incredible record in the race, winning it with the likes of Enable, Workforce and Dancing Brave.
Master trainer Aidan O'Brien always sends a strong squad to the French capital and is triply-represented this weekend. 2025 runner-up Minnie Hauk (20/1) hasn't been in quite the same form as she was heading into the race last year and dual-Classic winner Diamond Necklace (12/1), despite all her class, will have a lot to overcome if she is to be successful from stall 16. Irish Derby winner Benvenuto Cellini (12/1) completes the Ballydoyle team, he will have to bounce back from defeat on Trials Day but the inside stall should be to his benefit.
O'Brien has long been at the top of the training tree in Europe, but his son, Joseph, looks like he will be a threat to his dominance in years to come. This year alone, he has landed the St Leger, Irish Oaks and the Oaks, with his winner of the latter, Thundering On (9/1) his sole chance at Longchamp on Sunday. Connections were probably hoping for a touch more rain, however, she was handed a brilliant draw in three and gets a huge amount of weight from almost every rival in the field.
