Jumps racing is back in the spotlight this weekend and racing is back at Cheltenham with the two-day Showcase meeting.
Racing Post tipster Phill Anderson is on hand to provide his NAP and next best bet from the day’s action at Prestbury Park.
Uncle Bet - 7/2
Rider | Sam Twiston-Davies |
Trainer | Nigel & Willy Twiston-Davies |
Owner | James & Jean Potter Ltd |
Age | 9 |
Overall Form | 59/1F77- |
There’s plenty of rain around in the Cheltenham area on Saturday and if it turns the ground soft, it could really suit Uncle Bert who makes his seasonal reappearance.
This son of Pether’s Moon has recorded all six of his career victories on soft ground, including last season’s reappearance when successful on the Mildmay Course at Aintree.
He had an interrupted campaign subsequently and only got his ground once but it would be no surprise if he was a big threat on his return from just a 3lb higher mark than last year’s success.
Several of his main rivals also have to overcome absences and the Twiston-Davies team often have them ready early in the campaign so Uncle Bert looks like a big threat dropping back to his preferred distance, having failed to see out 3m1f when last seen.
With this looking like a weak renewal of the race, the nine-year-old should rightfully be outright favourite for this and still looks like the value play at 7/2 with bet365.

O'Moore Park - 16/1
Rider | Sean Bowen |
Trainer | Martin Keighley |
Owner | Clink, Fishwick, Maughan & Salters |
Age | 9 |
Overall Form | 5067-93 |
O’Moore Park didn’t win many races when trained by Willie Mullins but he certainly achieved a useful level of form and was almost exclusively highly-tried.
His career best effort came at Cheltenham last year when beaten less than a length in the Silver Trophy and he seems at his very best over the intermediate trip that he gets on Saturday.
Two miles on fast ground at Uttoxeter was never going to be in his favour when last of three runners earlier this month but that run wasn’t completely devoid of promise and it should at least put the nine-year-old spot on for this assignment.
With the yard flying, already on the board at Cheltenham for the season with a winner on Friday, O’Moore Park looks like the value play each-way in Saturday’s opener.
Phill Anderson signed off September with a couple of winners including Alobayyah (recommended at 4/1) and Red Evolution (recommended at 5/1) at the Curragh.
He picked out Ballinea Star, who hit the frame as a 33/1 shot at the same venue and also picked out 25/1 High Fibre who finished fourth in the recent Cesarewitch.
