Ben Shelton will begin his 2026 Wimbledon run against Finnish player Otto Virtanen, on Tuesday, June 30.
Ben Shelton will be playing in his fourth Wimbledon Championship in the 138th edition of the only Grand Slam held on a grass surface. Shelton is the highest ranked American and the fourth ranked player at Wimbledon this summer.
The 23-year-old is 25-10, and has won three individual titles (Stuttgart, Munich & Dallas) so far in 2026.
Shelton defeated fellow American Taylor Fritz in the Stuttgart ATP 250 finals on an outdoor grass surface, showcasing his ability to be incredibly competitive on the surface. In his final Wimbledon warm-up tournament in Halle, Germany, Shelton lost to Fritz in the quarterfinals.
The American star will be facing Otto Virtanen for the very first time in the first round of Wimbledon. Virtanen, 24, is the 137th ranked tennis player in the world according to APT.
Shelton is favored in the first round, and is a potential threat to Jannik Sinner who is the outright favorite to win the tournament. Shelton is the fourth favorite to win outright, priced at +1600.
