Josh Emmett (19-6-0) looks to get back on track when he headlines a UFC Fight Night against Kevin Vallejos at the Meta Apex on March 14.

A former interim title challenger, the American is coming off back-to-back losses and a run of one win in his last five fights.

Rise to Interim title fight

Emmett was 10-2 in the UFC when he got his opportunity to fight Yair Rodriguez for the Interim Title after Alexander Volkanovski moved up to face Islam Makhachev at Lightweight.

The American’s run included wins over Dan Ige, Calvin Kattar, Shane Burgos and Michael Johnson.

The fight against Rodriguez at UFC 284 saw Emmett submitted by triangle choke in the second round.

Recent run

Following the interim title loss, Emmett was given a tough match-up against surging star Ilia Topuria.

The Spaniard had finished his previous four opponents and although he dominated over five rounds, Emmett saw the final bell. 

Having succumbed to back-to-back losses for the first time in his career, the American returned to the win column with a viral first-round KO of Bryce Mitchell, putting him to sleep with his trademark overhand right. 

Emmett’s attempts to climb back into title contention have been curtailed since, losing twice to two hot prospects in Lerone Murphy and Yousef Zalal.

Entering his 10th year in the UFC, Emmett has tested himself against the best of multiple incarnations of the featherweight division.
