Two-time All-Star starting pitcher Freddy Peralta was traded from the New York Mets to the Tampa Rays ahead of Monday's deadline, and he'll make his debut for his new club tonight against the Colorado Rockies.
After leading the NL in wins with 17 and pitching to a 2.70 ERA with Milwaukee in 2025, Peralta struggled to find his footing in New York in the first half of this season, but perhaps a change of scenery will get him back to his old self. He'll join a 66-46 Rays team that is in first place in the AL East and a rotation that includes 2026 All-Stars Drew Rasmussen and Nick Martinez, along with Griffin Jax, Ian Seymour, and Shane McClanahan.
The former Met has a 4.99 ERA in 22 starts this year, striking out 113 batters in 113.2 innings. Tampa Bay has had a good history of developing pitchers recently, so it wouldn't come as much of a surprise if Peralta gets back to becoming a front-line starter - which would be a massive boost to an already-great Rays team.
Peralta has a tough challenge in his first Tampa start: conquer the uber hitter-friendly Coors Field. While the Rockies have one of the worst records in MLB, they've scored the seventh-most runs and have the fifth-highest team OPS, so it'll be a challenge.
