The Chicago Cubs were founded in 1870 as the Chicago White Stockings, making them one of the oldest professional baseball franchises.
They are a Charter member of the National League joining in 1879, almost twenty years later the franchise transitioned to the Cubs nickname. Wrigley Field, opened in 1914 as Weegham Park, it is the second oldest MLB stadium.
