Cleveland Guardians outfielder Chase DeLauter has been one of the American League's best rookies, but he'll spend some time on the injured list coming up.
DeLauter was injured when he ran into the outfield wall in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Detroit Tigers. It was a costly win for Cleveland, as they also lost seven-time All-Star Jose Ramirez and outfielder Angel Martinez in the same game.
The rookie fractured a rib on his right side and was subsequently placed on the 10-day IL on Wednesday.
DeLauter is slashing .263/.337/.408 and has hit seven home runs in 66 games for a Cleveland team 39-35 and tied for first place in the AL Central. He is currently priced at +3500 to win the AL Rookie of the Year award.
Guardians manager Stephen Vogt had some good news regarding DeLauter's recovery and expects him to come off the IL after the required 10 days.
"We just felt it was best with where he is injury-wise...let's give it 10 days so he can be 100% on the other end of the 10 days and be ready to go," Vogt told reporters on Wednesday.
If DeLauter truly does only spend 10 days on the IL and doesn't need a rehab start, he could be good to go in Cleveland's home afternoon game against the Seattle Mariners on June 28.
In response to putting DeLauter on the IL, the Guardians called up outfielder Kahlil Watson from Triple-A Columbus.
