Dutch sensation Van Veen has enjoyed a rapid rise up the world rankings and has now cemented himself as the best player outside of the two Lukes.
The 24-year-old doesn't actually have too far of a gap to bridge between himself and Humphries after a string of consistent performances. With the world number two already out of the competition, Van Veen has a rare opportunity to erode the deficit even further.

A seven-time World Matchplay finalist -- a record only bettered by the great Phil Taylor -- there is no denying that Wade absolutely adores this competition and 'The Machine' looks to be working as good as ever.
He was good against both Jermaine Wattimena and Ryan Searle and I think that he could drag Van Veen into something of an epic.
That being said, the 8/11 favourite will be hard to overcome and I think the Dutchman will get himself on the right side of the result - but only after enduring a tussle that promises to span at least 28 legs.
It might be Van Veen's power hitting that gets him the result in the end and I'm taking him to register the most maximums out of this quarter-final pairing.
