Saturday’s card at the Curragh features some competitive handicaps as well as the Group 2 Beresford Stakes and some big field maidens also feature.

There are plenty in with claims in the Premier Handicap over the minimum trip at the Curragh on Saturday but one horse stands out at the prices with bet365 offering five places on the race.
Red Evolution is the horse in question. This lightly-raced four-year-old really got his act together last season following a gelding procedure, winning three five-furlong contests including a couple of Cork handicaps.
The latest of those was off a 3lb higher mark than he competes off now and he’s returned to form in his last couple of starts, winning at Naas last month before hitting the crossbar in a deep race at this venue on Irish Champions’ Weekend.
That’s a run that is worth marking up given that he’s at his best on a quicker surface than what he got that day and the return to a real speed test could see him resume progress with all his peak Racing Post Ratings coming over this trip.
Furthermore, the talented apprentice rider, Reese Holohan is still able to claim 7lb and the rider has looked like cracking value for the half a stone he can claim so far this season.
A high draw is often an advantage over this course and distance and there’s an argument to say that Red Evolution should be the outright favourite for this contest so he makes plenty of appeal each-way with bet365 offering an extra place on that contest.
16:20 Curragh - Ballinea Star @ 17/2
There are question marks over a few of the field that feature at the head of the market for the Goffs Million but Ballinea Star looks solid at an each-way sort of price.
He followed a maiden success at Cork with a shock Group 3 win over the extended six furlongs at the Curragh on his penultimate start and he had a tough ask on the back of a break in Group 1 company last time out behind Sun Goddess.
That’s an effort worth marking up having set unsustainable fractions from the front and this is a marked drop in class for the daughter of Space Blues who may not be done progressing yet.
It’s another race in which bet365 are offering an extra place and Ballinea Star makes each-way appeal at 17/2.
17:25 Curragh - Sunatia @ 6/1
The fillies’ maiden that ends the card doesn’t look like the strongest event and Sunatia could be the one that can take advantage.
This well-bred daughter of Night Of Thunder came on markedly from her debut to finish runner-up in a course-and-distance maiden on her penultimate outing.
That form has been boosted by the winner going in again since in Listed company and Sunatia ran another huge race in defeat when beaten half a length in a 21-runner maiden at Navan, just caught in the closing stages.
She’s well drawn for this event in stall six with most of her main challengers drawn much wider and she may be capable of getting off the mark at the fourth attempt.
