bet365 Cambridgeshire takes centre stage at Newmarket

An ultra-competitive field of 28 will jump for the 185th running of the bet365 Cambridgeshire.

One of the most established and well known handicaps staged across the entirety of the British Flat campaign, winners of the race often use their success as a springboard to compete in Group contests down the line.

The two most recent winners, Boiling Point and Liberty Lane, have both gone onto become regular fixtures in Group races, while 2019 victor Lord North added four Group 1 wins to his CV after downing his rivals in the Newmarket showpiece.

Following on from the aforementioned successes for Boiling Point and Liberty Lane, trainer Karl Burke is now seeking an unprecedented hat-trick of wins in the race. He saddles the highly tried Thunder Run (20/1) who arrives here in good form after landing a £36,000 handicap at Doncaster.

Another handler who has previous in this race is John Gosden. Now training in partnership with his son, Thady, the Clarehaven operation have taken this prize home more than any other yard. Lord North gave them the most recent of their five victories and they will fancy their chances of making it six at the weekend with Gavriel (4/1) and Harmonics (10/1) set to jump from stalls 28 and 18 respectively.

Indalo (15/2) is also among the fancied contenders, out to avenge his unfortunate runner-up finish in this contest 12 months ago. The five-year-old was beaten a nose when rapidly closing last year and returns off an 11lb higher mark for Roger Varian and Ray Dawson.

Alan King is no stranger to landing lucrative Flat handicaps and last month's Ebor winner saddles the rapidly improving Alcarath (16/1). Stall 1 might not be the most ideal of draws, however, he could receive a timely form boost if Kokbastau lands the Godolphin Stakes at HQ on Friday.
