Sydney FC v Tottenham Hotspur Prediction: Stingy Spurs can land 13/8 success

Roberto De Zerbi looks to be getting his rewards for keeping Tottenham up last season, as they continue their pre-season preparations.

Not only have the club’s owners backed him in the transfer market, but they have already claimed two friendly wins so far this summer.

A trip Down Under has been part of Spurs’ build-up for the new Premier League season, with Sydney FC the latest opponents.

It’s been two wins and two clean sheets so far in pre-season and Tottenham will hope to keep that run going against their A-League opposition on Wednesday.

Sydney FC v Tottenham Hotspur Predictions

Best Bet: Tottenham to win to nil @ 13/8

It’s two wins from two in pre-season for Tottenham and one factor that would have really pleased boss De Zerbi will be consecutive clean sheets.

Even without the likes of Micky van de Ven, Pedro Porro and Andy Robertson, Spurs have managed to stop both MK Dons and Auckland FC from scoring.

In fact, De Zerbi’s men kept their New Zealand opponents to just three shots on target in their 2-0 win in Auckland on Sunday.

Sydney FC finished two places below Auckland in last season’s A-League standings, scoring nine less goals than the rivals from New Zealand, so the visitors will feel they can make it three clean sheets in a row.

It’s a pretty young Tottenham squad on tour, with no fewer than six of their World Cup stars on an extended break after the tournament. The likes of Dejan Kulusevski, Mohamed Kudus and Xavi Simons have also stayed in London to work on their fitness.

So while the Premier League side may ultimately have the quality to win, don't expect them to do so with a glut of goals.

Alternative Bet: Over 9 Corners @ 11/8

One of the key factors in Tottenham staying in the Premier League last season was their success from corners.

Spurs scored 17 times from corners, which equalled the figure of their north London rivals and title winners, Arsenal.

De Zerbi will hope that will continue in the 2026/27 campaign and there have been plenty of set-pieces in their opening two pre-season friendlies.

Tottenham won 10 corners in the weekend win over Auckland, with 13 corners in total at Eden Park. Meanwhile, there were 11 corners in the 1-0 success over MK Dons.

Having missed out on a place in Brazil’s World Cup squad, Richarlison will have a point to prove this coming season.

The former Everton man is already off the mark in pre-season, coming on as a second-half substitute in Auckland to score the second goal in a 2-0 win.

Sydney FC, managed by ex-Leeds United and Leicester City defender Patrick Kisnorbo, finished fifth in the A-League last term and their success was built around a solid backline.

The Sky Blues had the best defensive record in the league, conceding just 25 goals in 26 league games.

Spurs started a youthful side in the first half in Auckland, with the likes of Ben Davies, Richarlison, Conor Gallagher and Mateus Fernandes entering the fray in the second half.

If it’s a similar plan from De Zerbi on Tuesday, then expect Tottenham to prove too strong in the second 45 minutes.
