After the thrilling end to the previous campaign, Celtic will look to defend their Scottish Premiership crown for a sixth successive season while Rangers plot to dethrone their arch-rivals under the stewardship of Derek McInnes.
Despite Brendan Rogers' resignation, Wilfried Nancy's ill-fated tenure and a rift between supporters and the board, Martin O'Neill managed to orchestrate a title-winning season across his two interim spells as Celtic defeated Hearts on the final day to finish top of the pile.
It would have been a fitting send off for O'Neill, who at the time was unsure as to whether he would remain in the dugout at Celtic Park, but the 74-year-old has committed to at least one more campaign - and one where he plans to lead from the off, instead of playing catch up.
The Bhoys are 4/5 favourites to be crowned champions of Scotland for the 57th time in the club's history, and their club-record purchase of Bodo/Glimt striker Kasper Hogh is a demonstration of their intention to achieve that feat.
Last season was equally chaotic on the blue side of Glasgow. Russell Martin lasted just 17 matches, and although Danny Rohl managed to galvanise Rangers, his team wilted following the post-season split. Two points ahead of Celtic with five matches remaining, the Gers finished 10 points off the pace of the champions.
It's been all change since then, however.
Rohl was headhunted by Red Bull Salzburg for their head coach vacancy in June and Rangers continued their cherry picking of last year's runners-up Hearts by appointing McInnes as their new boss.
The former Aberdeen tactician followed Lawrence Shankland through the door of Ibrox, and Rangers have bolstered all departments with an array of signings which include goalkeeper Ivor Pandur from Hull City, Vanja Dragojevic from Partizan Belgrade and the free transfers of Dan Neil and Cammy Devlin.
Yet for all of their new recruits, McInnes will know he must overcome Rangers' psychological frailties if they're to end Celtic's dominance.
