Mansfield Town v Sheffield United Prediction: Strike duo to net 15/2 Bet Builder

Mansfield Town will be out for more cup joy against Sheffield United when the two teams meet at the One Call Stadium on Sunday in the first round of the EFL Cup.

Nigel Clough's side sprang a surprise on the Blades last season in the third round of the FA Cup as they ran out 4-3 winners at Bramall Lane.

Mansfield finished 10th in League One after a sensational finish to the season, while Chris Wilder's men were unable to mount a serious promotion challenge as they finished 13th in the Championship.

The Stags have made some decent additions to their squad, but Wilder has yet to make any major signings and is set to lose playmaker Gustavo Hamer before the start of the Championship campaign.

Mansfield Town v Sheffield United Prediction

Best Bet: Double Chance - Mansfield or Draw @ 10/11

The Sheffield United board turned to Chris Wilder last season after a disastrous start to the campaign, although he was unable to work his magic and get his team into play-off contention.

Wilder promised Blades fans things would be different this season, but the Yorkshire club has struggled to bring in new faces.

To make matters worse, Wilder has lost right-hand man Alan Knill, with the club's board pushing him out, with former Manchester United defender Phil Jones taking his place.

Wilder has been able to add veteran defender Matt Doherty to his ranks, but they look a little light in attack and will struggle to create chances if they lose Hamer.

Mansfield have signed Jon Russell, David McGoldrick, Michael Smith and Liam Thompson this summer and they will look to end the campaign where they left off last year.

Clough's troops only lost one of their last 15 gmaes in League One and having got the better of the Blades last season, they can at least avoid defeat in 90 minutes once again.

Alternative Bet: Both teams to score @ 3/4

Mansfield have maintained their scoring form from the end of last season in pre-season and they should be able to find the net in front of their own supporters.

The Stags have scored 10 goals in four pre-season friendlies, while they have scored in eight of their last 10 at home in all competitions.

Sheffield United have featured in six pre-season friendlies and have only failed to score in two of those ties, netting 10 goals so far, and with Wilder practically having to field his best XI, they should be able to hit the back of the net against lower-league opposition.

Sunday's game promises to be end to end and intense from the off and with plenty of chances expected to be created, both Patrick Bamford and McGoldrick look worth supporting to score.

Former Leeds United ace Bamford netted 13 times in his first campaign for the Blades, with four of those goals coming in his last four appearances of the season.

As one of his team's primary penalty takers, Bamford looks good value to hit the back of the net at any time.

McGoldrick returns to his former club and will look to haunt his former employers. The veteran is so reliable in the final third and netted 18 times for Barnsley last season, so there's every chance he can start the new season on a high against a team he will be so desperate to do well against.
