Manchester United will be without striker Benjamin Sesko for a little while yet.
Sesko, 23, last featured for the Red Devils in their EFL Cup defeat to Brighton in mid-September when he was substituted after 66 minutes.
The Slovenia international joined United from RB Leipzig in a deal worth more than £70m in August 2023, scoring 14 goals in 38 appearances so far.
Although he also suffered with injury issues last season, Sesko finished as Manchester United's joint-highest goalscorer in the Premier League with 11 goals, alongside Bryan Mbeumo.
He was forced to sit out the final three games of the Premier League season and the entirety of preseason with the same shin injury that he is suffering with now.
When is Benjamin Sesko expected to return from injury?
Reports indicate that Sesko will not be fit enough to return to action until at least January.
Michael Carrick will now be without a recognised number nine for key Premier League clashes against Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal. United also face off against Roma, Sporting CP and Sesko's former club RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League, but could be back in time for the visit of Bayern Munich on 20th January.
The forward has netted twice this season, once against Everton in the Premier League, with the other coming against Azerbaijani side Sabah FK in Europe.
United are currently on a run of eight matches without a victory and pressure is mounting on Carrick in the Old Trafford dugout. However, reports emerged earlier in the week that the ex-Middlesbrough boss will stay in charge for the weekend trip to Stamford Bridge.
