Either the Tampa Bay Rays or Milwaukee Brewers will be crowned a World Series champion for the first time in franchise history before October concludes.
The two small market teams have both followed similar philosophies to reach this point: elite pitching and defense, plenty of contact and speed, and enough power to hit a home run and flip a game.
The question is; who will be the hero that propels their respective team to a championship?
Last year's postseason hero was Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto. He made three appearances, including a complete game, and allowed just two earned runs in 17.2 innings pitched. It's somewhat rare that a pitcher wins the prestigious award (he was the first to win since Stephen Strasburg in 2019), but it's certainly possible.
Below is a look at the odds for the winner of the World Series MVP award on bet365:
MIL Brewers | TB Rays | ||
Jackson Chourio | +550 | Junior Caminero | +800 |
William Contreras | +650 | Yandy Diaz | +1100 |
Jacob Misiorowski | +800 | Jonathan Aranda | +1200 |
Brice Turang | +850 | Drew Rasmussen | +2000 |
Jake Bauers | +1200 | Victor Mesa Jr. | +3300 |
Christian Yelich | +2500 | Freddy Peralta | +4000 |
Garrett Mitchell | +3500 | Ryan Vilade | +4500 |
Andrew Vaughn | +4500 | Chandler Simpson | +5000 |
Logan Henderson | +4500 | Liam Hicks | +5000 |
The Brewers' Jackson Chourio (+550) is the odds-on favorite to win WSMVP. He bats leadoff and is the most talented hitter on the team that is favored to win the series. He hit a homer in the NLDS off Robbie Ray and the NLCS on Blake Snell's first pitch of Game 3.
Junior Caminero (+800) is the favorite to be the hero for the Rays, and understandably so. The 23-year-old has hit 87 homers over the last two seasons and hit one off Cade Smith in the ALCS-clinching Game 6.
Aces Jacob Misiorowski (+800) and Drew Rasmussen (+2000) are also in consideration - both will start Game 1. "The Miz" has given up three earned runs in 8.1 innings pitched in these playoffs, but the sky is the limit for the amount of strikeouts he can put on the board with his generational fastball.
Rasmussen, a former Brewer, has been elite for Tampa in the playoffs so far. He's pitched 21 innings and has a 1.29 ERA, while striking out 23 batters. He goes deep into games, strikes out plenty of batters, and limits runs - a perfect recipe for a potential series MVP.
William Contreras (+650), Yandy Diaz (+1100), Brice Turang (+850), Jonathan Aranda (+1100), and Jake Bauers (+1200) all have the potential to get hot, while the rest of the candidates are longshots that will need to come up with some clutch hits to have a chance.
