Update on Switzerland attacker Johan Manzambi's knee injury.
Johan Manzambi has been one the brightest young stars at the 2026 World Cup, but is going to miss the second straight match with a knee injury.
Manzambi, 20, suffered a non-contact knee injury in training on July 6th, the day before Switzerland were set to face Colombia in the Round of 16 on July 7th.
Without the young star on the pitch against Colombia, Switzerland failed to score and lacked a creative spark. They managed to advance regardless, winning a cagey penalty shootout after a 0-0 draw over 120 minutes.
In 280 minutes with Manzambi on the sidelines at this World Cup, Switzerland have scored just one goal, 0.33 goals per 90 minutes. In 200 minutes with Manzambi on the pitch, Switzerland averaged 3.6 goals per 90 minutes.
The Freiburg man contributed three goals and two assists, including a brace against Bosnia & Herzegovina which turned Switzerland's tournament around.
Short answer: No.
Johan Manzambi has been ruled out for Switzerland's quarterfinal clash with Argentina on Saturday, July 11th.
Swiss manager Murat Yakin confirmed the 20-year-old breakout star will miss his second consecutive match with a knee injury, so his team will need to find a spark from somewhere else to advance past the reigning champions.
Switzerland have never reached the World Cup semifinals, but will if they are able to defeat Argentina.
