Making a Super Bowl appearance is a terrific feat, even if it concludes in a loss.
Players such as Barry Sanders, Tony Gonzalez, LaDainian Tomlinson, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, and more have never competed in one.
Each team will go down in the history books, and every Super Bowl has plays that are remembered forever.
In Super Bowl LX, each team hasn't made it to the big game since the 2010's. The last time the New England Patriots made it was in the 2018 season, and the last time the Seattle Seahawks made it, they fell victim to one of Tom Brady's comebacks (and the infamous goal-line interception) in 2014.
The players are young, and the expectations for each team coming into the season were certainly lower than this.
Considering that it's been a while since either team made it, hardly anyone on each roster has played in a Super Bowl before - and no members of either team were a part of the Super Bowl team's in 2019 for New England and 2014 for Seattle.
Robert Kraft will see his 11th different Super Bowl as the Patriots owner, and head coach Mike Vrabel has now made it to five total Super Bowls (four as a player).
Seattle's ownership group, The Allen Trust, made the 2014 Super Bowl, but Mike Macdonald will experience his first as a coach in the NFL.
Here's a look at the current players on each team that have made a Super Bowl before, and which team(s) they made it with:
Name | Team/Year |
WR Mack Hollins | Philadelphia Eagles/2017 |
DT Milton Williams | Philadelphia Eagles/2024 |
CB Carlton Davis III | Tampa Bay Buccaneers/2020 |
TE Austin Hooper | Atlanta Falcons/2016 |
Mack Hollins played in a limited special teams role in the Eagles win over the Patriots in Super Bowl LII, and Austin Hooper had a touchdown catch in his rookie year in the loss against the Patriots in Super Bowl LI.
Milton Williams and Carlton Davis each played huge roles on their respective teams, and they both are Super Bowl Champions.
Name | Team/Year |
QB Sam Darnold | San Francisco 49ers/2023 |
WR Cooper Kupp | Los Angeles Rams/2021 |
LB Ernest Jones IV | Los Angeles Rams/2021 |
Sam Darnold made Super Bowl LVII backing up Jimmy Garoppolo as a member of the San Francisco 49ers team that lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Cooper Kupp and Ernest Jones IV were teammates on the Super Bowl LVI-winning Los Angeles Rams in the defeat of the Cincinnati Bengals.
Of course, Kupp finished with eight receptions for 92 yards and two touchdowns en route to winning Super Bowl MVP.
Jones also had a huge day, finishing with seven tackles, two tackles for loss, three quarterback hits, and one pass defensed.
Perhaps one of the two former Super Bowl stars will make their impact felt yet again in Super Bowl LX on Feb. 8.
