World Cup co-hosts Canada will be aiming to take charge of Group B when they take on Qatar in Vancouver on Thursday.
Les Rouges rescued a point against Bosnia in their opening game as Cyle Larin took just three minutes to score after coming on from the bench.
Qatar, meanwhile, made history in their opener, scoring in the 94th minute against Switzerland to record their first-ever World Cup point.
With all four Group B teams tied on points and goals, a win in the second game would put either side in the driving seat to advance to the knockout stages.
Canada showed great resolve to grab a draw against Bosnia and ensure their World Cup campaign started on a positive note in front of a raucous home crowd.
That result extended Canada’s unbeaten run to nine matches and head coach Jesse Marsch has made his side a tough nut to crack.
While Qatar showed impressive character and fight to score so late on and rescue a memorable point in their opener, the Maroon One conceded 27 shots and were fortunate the Swiss were so profligate in front of goal.
With Alphonso Davies potentially fit to feature for Canada and Jonathan David leading the line, the co-hosts should create plenty of scoring opportunities and they look capable of earning a crucial victory.
While Canada are much fancied to beat Qatar in Vancouver, this clash is unlikely to be a goalfest.
Only one of Canada’s last 11 games has featured more than two goals, with six of those producing either one or zero goals.
Qatar’s games have also been low-scoring, with just one of their last six assignments producing over 2.5 goals.
Head coach Julen Lopetegui will set his side up deep and it will be up to Canada to try and unlock the defence, which means a win is likely to be a narrow one.
Larin’s strike against Bosnia will have done wonders for the Southampton forward’s confidence.
The 31-year-old netted just minutes after being introduced as a substitute and will be eager to contribute once more whether handed a start or coming on from the bench again.
Larin has scored 10 times since the turn of the year and is in the sort of form that means when a chance presents itself, he will likely take it.
