2026 US Open Longshot Predictions & Odds

Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Long Island hosts the third Major of the year this week with the top players in the world presented with a customarily tough test at the US Open.

Plenty of eyes will be on hot favorite Scottie Scheffler as the world number one has the opportunity to join the elite group of six men who have won all four Majors.

However, Scheffler, who was tied for second at Brookline in 2022, has not won since capturing the American Express in January and this tournament is no stranger to big-priced winners, with last year’s victor JJ Spaun collecting the prize at huge odds of +12500.

The field is so strong that top-quality players are available to back at big prices and here are three outsiders who are capable of making a big impression at this week's US Open.

2026 US Open Longshot betting picks and predictions

Cameron Smith (+9000)

It is now nearly four years since Cameron Smith won his first Major at the Open Championship at St Andrews and there was a feeling that the Australian would kick on and become one of the biggest names in the game.

A few months after that success at the home of golf, he elected to turn his attention to the LIV Tour and he has been unable to scale the heights that were perhaps anticipated.

However, while Shinnecock Hills will provide a tough test, he could get its measure on his second visit since he missed the cut the last time the venue hosted the US Open in 2018.

Smith has finished fourth at the US Open twice, in 2014 on his debut at Chambers Bay and then three years ago at the Los Angeles Country Club so it is not as if he comes into this tournament with no form in the contest.

He had missed his previous six cuts before emerging as the forgotten man to finish seventh at last month’s PGA Championship at Aronimink, so there is a feeling he could be back on the ball.

Smith was fifth in his latest outing on the breakaway circuit in Andalucia on one of Europe’s top courses, Valderrama, which is renowned as a tough test, and both of those performances could spur him on to big things.

Adam Scott (+7500)

Another Australian who deserves respect is Adam Scott, who has to go back to 2013 to remember his only Major success at the Masters.

Scott has not finished higher than 10th in a Major since he was seventh in the 2019 US Open, but he tops the PGA Tour charts in terms of strokes-gained on approach this year and that could be a key skill to utilize in this week’s examination.

The cut he missed at Aronimink last month has been the only time he has had the weekend off since the Open Championship in July, and while the PGA was a disappointment, he did bounce back to finish 12th at the Memorial after a three-week break that could have done him some good.

His closing 66 at Muirfield Village will have put a spring in his step and the fact he was 12th last year at Oakmont means he should not be dismissed.

Harris English (+7500)

Harris English has finished in the top 10 at three US Opens and could prove another one to follow.

He has not featured at this course before but he has been a consistent performer on the PGA Tour this year and he could be knocking on the door.

English was second at both the PGA and the Open last year so he knows what it is like to be in the mix on a Major Sunday, and he has missed the cut in just one of his last 12 appearances at the biggest events.

His 18th at this year’s PGA and fourth at the top-level RBC Heritage should stand him in good stead and he should not be underestimated.
