"Golf's longest day" has officially ended and the results are in. Here is everything you need to know about the final qualifying opportunity for the 2026 U.S. Open.
On Monday, June 8, 2026, roughly 700 professional and amateur golfers competed in the final qualifying opportunity, but only 43 players secured their place in the field for the 2026 U.S. Open.
It refers to the final 36-hole qualifying stage for the U.S. Open, where players complete two full rounds of golf in a single day across ten sites.
Format: Players tee off in the morning for 18 holes and then play a second round in the afternoon. With roughly 8-10 hours spent walking the course and playing 36 holes, it is truly one of the most grueling days in golf.
Locations: The qualifying events take place simultaneously, across ten host sites mostly in the United States with occasional Canada locations.
The cut: To qualify, players must finish inside the top exact spot(s) specific to that venue, if there is a tie a sudden-death playoff is held immediately to determine who gets to advance.
