Despite being the last game of an extremely turbulent season for Sheffield Wednesday, it was a party atmosphere at Hillsborough as the home fans celebrated a new era at the club.
Although they faced points deductions, failed takeovers, recording the longest winless run in all competitions by a Football League club and ending the season on minus points, the Sheffield Wednesday fans have followed their club up and down the country and will now be hoping their loyalty has been rewarded.
There was a real buzz in S6 in the morning leading up to their final Championship fixture and images started coming through of Hillsborough being full up to 45 minutes before kick-off.
The fans then erupted 15 minutes before kick-off as the completed takeover by US consortium Arise was confirmed by an official stadium announcement that also confirmed their would be no points deduction ahead of their League One campaign in 2026/27.
Official confirmation of the attendance at Hillsborough for Sheffield Wednesday v West Brom was 33,750 - the highest attendance in the Championship this season.
Wednesday also boast the second-highest attendance of the campaign with 32,740.
Middlesbrough rank second with a highest attendance of 32,100, ahead of Coventry City (31,647) and Leicester City (31,354).
