West Ham and Hull City miss out on Socceroos star as £15m transfer is agreed

Watford's Nestory Irankunda has reportedly opted not to remain in England as he closes in on a move to Sporting Lisbon.

Irankunda has been a wanted man this summer after an impressive maiden campaign at Vicarage Road.

His stock rose even further after the season came to an end as he starred in Australia's run to the knockout stages of the 2026 World Cup, netting the opening goal as the Socceroos defeated Turkey 2-0 in their Group D opener.

A number of clubs were said to be circling when the transfer window opened, with reports suggesting West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo had earmarked the 20-year-old following Crysenico Summerville's move away from the London Stadium.

Newly-promoted Hull City are also said to have thrown their hat into the ring.

The club are said to have a bid of worth around £10million knocked back by Watford, and it looks like the Hornets were wise to hold out for a larger fee based on recent reports.

According to Fabrizio Romano Alessio Dionisi's side have accepted an offer worth £15million plus add-ons from Sporting for Irankunda.

The Portuguese club have been repeatedly linked with the winger in recent weeks, and an agreement is said to have been reached with the player, with an official unveiling imminent.

Bayern Munich will reportedly be entitled to a portion of the proceeds after inserting a sell-on clause when he left the club last summer.
