Wes Streeting Prime Minister Odds

Health Secretary Wes Streeting has officially resigned from government and now looks set to launch a leadership challenge against Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Streeting has served as Secretary of State for Health and Social Care in Starmer's cabinet since 2024, but rumours have long persisted of the 43-year-old's ambition to serve in higher office.

Announcing his resignation from government, Streeting claimed to have 'lost confidence' in the Prime Minister's leadership, something he claimed to have told the PM in his now infamous 16-minute meeting at Number 10.

The pressure will now ramp up on the under-fire Starmer, who is facing growing calls to resign from across the political spectrum.

Can Streeting now mount a successful leadership challenge and unseat Starmer? Let's look at the odds.

Wes Streeting Next Prime Minister Odds

(Odds will display when market is available)

Despite Streeting's former prominence amongst Starmer's cabinet, the 43-year-old is not fancied as the immediate favourite to become the next political leader of the United Kingdom.

He currently sits behind former Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, who is rumoured to be preparing a leadership challenge of her own, Mayor of Manchester Andy Burnham and former Labour leader Ed Miliband in the betting markets.

Streeting's value may fluctuate in the coming days or even hours, as the ever-changing political climate fluctuates, however questions remain about how wide the support for the former Health Secretary is.

It's a similar story in the market for the Next Labour Leader.

Streeting looks set to be the first Labour politician to officially make his move against the current Prime Minister, however, we may well see more names from the party mount challenges against Starmer in the near future.
