Next UK Prime Minister Odds

With Keir Starmer's tenure as Prime Minister being thrown into serious scrutiny following Labour's disastrous results at the local elections, we take a look at who the favourites are to replace him.

The 63-year-old's position has never looked more vulnerable after Labour were left battered and bruised in the aftermath of last week's vote in which the party lost a staggering 1,500 councillor seats.

Understandably, the Prime Minister has since faced a barrage of criticism, with a plethora of resignations taking place including that of safeguarding minister Jess Phillips.

Starmer gave a make-or-break speech designed to thwart any leadership challenges earlier this week, but a subsequent string of departures, together with increasing calls for the leader to leave from within, suggests that a significant change could be afoot.

But, who is currently leading the charge to take over should Starmer vacate his role?

Well, Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham is the current favourite and is widely considered to be the most plausible candidate to take over the reins from within the party.

It's understood Burnham has been plotting a return as a sitting Member of Parliament for some time; something that is, of course, a prerequisite for the top job.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting and Starmer's former deputy Angela Rayner also feature prominently in the betting, with the former understood to already possess the backing of enough Labour MPs to launch a leadership bid.

Ed Miliband is a somewhat surprise name in the mix, despite being unsuccessful in his bid to win the 2015 General Election.

The 56-year-old has proved popular with the younger generation of the general public on social media over the past 12 months and hasn't been afraid to voice his disdain towards the Prime Minster throughout the recent Mandelson scandal.

Should Starmer continue to resist parliament pressure and make it to the next election still in power, there's one candidate who appears a clear favourite to beat him, Reform UK leader Nigel Farage - a current 22/1 outsider.
