Next Labour Leader Odds & Potential Candidates

Keir Starmer appears to be on the brink in his position as Prime Minister after a flurry of Labour resignations and a potential leadership challenge on the horizon.

Starmer's future as leader of the Labour party and Prime Minister looks almost untenable, and Labour's recent poor performance in the local council elections has led to ministerial resignations in protest of his leadership.

Several high-profile names are believed to be readying leadership challenges against Starmer, who is still resisting the mounting political pressure from within his own party.

Next Labour Leader Odds

Andy Burnham

(Odds will display when market is available)

Mayor of Manchester Andy Burnham is the current favourite to become the next leader of the Labour party, and the 'The King of the North' is currently vying for a position in Westminster in the Makerfield by-election.

Burnham is widely regarded as one of the most popular politicians in the country and the 56-year-old is the strong favourite to succeed Starmer in Number 10.

Aiding his cause is the support he recently received from former Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, who is rumoured to be set for a return in Burnham's potential cabinet.

Wes Streeting

(Odds will display when market is available)

Former Health Secretary Wes Streeting has regularly been touted as a potential challenger to Starmer and future Labour leader, and those rumours have only intensified since his resignation from Starmer's cabinet.

The MP for Ilford North resigned as Health Secretary earlier this month, claiming Starmer does not have what it takes to lead the Labour party and announcing his intention to stand in any upcoming leadership bids.

Streeting is considered a moderate candidate however and while he has his supporters, those on the left of the party - notably the influential Rayner - may not view him favourably as leader of the party.

Angela Rayner

(Odds will display when market is available)

Former Deputy Prime Minister Rayner is one of the leading voices in the Labour party and served as the Deputy Labour leader for five years from 2020-2025.

The 46-year-old has served as the MP for Ashton-under-Lyne since 2015 and, despite returning to the backbenches in 2025 due to concerns over a personal tax issue, hers remains an influential voice in the party.

Rayner has often been touted as a potential successor to Starmer, however rumours of a coalition with Andy Burnham have gathered pace in recent weeks and she may prefer the Kingmaker role over a leadership bid of her own.

Ed Miliband

(Odds will display when market is available)

One of the most experienced members of Starmer's cabinet and the current Energy Secretary, Ed Miliband is regularly linked with a return to power.

He previously served as Labour leader from 2010-2015 and is believed to have many supporters from the left of the party.

Given that current favourite Burnham faces obstacles in any return to Westminster, and Streeting and Rayner both carry potential controversial political baggage, Miliband could represent a safe pair of hands to guide the party through the stormy waters of a leadership change.

John Healey

Following his shock resignation from his position as Defence Secretary, could John Healey be angling for a potential leadership position in the Labour Party?

Healey is a political veteran and was long considered a loyal member of Starmer's cabinet, but the 66-year-old stepped down after the long-awaited defensive budget review revealed reduced funding for defence.

While not a heavyweight in the party, Healy is a moderate, someone without enemies in politics, and the MP for Rawmarsh and Conisbrough is proven to be a steady and dependable operator.

Could Healey emerge as a contender to lead Labour in any potential leadership challenge?
