Top scorers in the 2014 World Cup

It's been 12 years since the World Cup touched down in Brazil for one of the most exciting tournaments in recent memory.

While England didn't cover themself in glory as the only Home Nation to qualify - finishing bottom of Group D without a single win - the 2014 tournament remains a favourite to many of those who witnessed it.

After leading the Selecao to victory in 2002, Luiz Felipe Scolari returned to the hotseat and was tasked with delivering a sixth World Cup triumph for the hosts.

Despite a promising start Brazil's hopes would come undone in cataclysmic fashion at the semi-final stage as they were unceremoniously thrashed by Germany 7-1 in what remains one of the most shocking results in the tournament's near century-long history.

Prior to being dumped out of the competition by Germany, Brazil had edged past an inspired Colombia side that had reached the last eight for the first time thanks largely to the performances of their talisman James Rodriguez.

Rodriguez had been the star of Colombia's qualification campaign and maintained his form into the tournament, scoring once and registering two assists as they defeated Greece in their Group C opener.

He scored and assisted again in Colombia's second game as they defeated the Ivory Coast 2-1 before coming off the bench in their final group game against Japan to seal a 4-1 win.

Against two-time winners Uruguay in the round of 16 Rodriguez continued his incredible run, opening the scoring with a Puskas Award-winning volley that continues to rank among the best goals ever scored in the tournament before adding a second after the interval to seal the victory.

Rodriguez again got his name on the scoresheet in the following round but his penalty was not enough to overcome Brazil.

Still, his six goals from five appearances were enough to see him claim the 2014 World Cup Golden Boot, edging out some of the biggest names in world football to secure the award.

Germany's Thomas Muller ultimately finished second in the scoring charts, with Neymar third. But who joined them in the top ten? Let's take a look.
