Swansea City emerge as favourites to land former England defender

Swansea City are ready to swoop for Wrexham defender Conor Coady before next week's transfer deadline, according to reports.

Swansea are said to have made an official approach to sign Coady before the window slams shut on 1 September.

Vitor Matos has been forced to hunt for defensive reinforcements following Cameron Burgess' injury, and has earmarked Coady as a potential replacement according to a report from Football League World.

The club have already bolstered their ranks with the signing of Stephen Welsh, who joined on a free from Celtic in July and has started both league games this season.

Championship

It seems clear that Coady's time at Wrexham has come to an end as he has been left out of the matchday squad for both of the club's Championship fixtures of the new campaign.

Coady was lauded as a landmark signing for Phil Parkinson's side when he arrived at the Racecourse Ground from Leicester last summer.

A 10-cap England international with a host of top flight experience, the centre-back was expected to play a key role in North Wales ahead of Wrexham's long-awaited return to the Championship.

Despite Wrexham paying £2million to sign him, Coady found himself surplus to requirements at his new club after a difficult start and was allowed to join Charlton on loan in January.

At The Valley Coady demonstrated his versatility as he was deployed in a defensive midfield role and made 12, netting once and providing an assist before returning to his parent club.
