Swansea City are closing in on the capture of former Southampton star Ross Stewart with the Scotland international expected to undertake a medical in South Wales in the coming days.
The 30-year-old frontman has been one of the most in-demand players in the Championship this summer following his decision to part ways with the Saints.
He bagged 11 times in 33 appearances for the Saints last season, playing a key role in their upturn in fortunes under Tonda Eckert.
However, despite that, he turned down the opportunity to extend his stay on the south coast, with Swansea City now having seemingly won the battle for his signature.
"Understand Swansea are closing in on the former Southampton striker Ross Stewart on free transfer," EFL transfer guru Pete O'Rourke posted on X on Monday.
The Swans have been active in the summer transfer window strengthening Vitor Matos' first-team squad, with Stewart, who was part of Scotland's World Cup squad, expected to become their sixth major first-team acquisition.
The Welsh club lost the services of influential midfielder Ethan Galbraith to Stoke City last month, but have reinvested significantly, capturing the likes of Joseph Opoku, Elijah Just and Leo Walta for a combined outlay of around £15 million.
Stewart's impending arrival will be viewed as a significant coup for the Swans, even if there are significant question marks surrounding the fitness of the former Sunderland goal machine.
Despite notching 105 goals in his 290 career appearances, Stewart's career has been hindered by a number of injuries, including a succession of long-term hamstring lay-offs during his three-season spell with Southampton.
However, there's no questioning his goalscoring credentials, with the Ayr man having reached double figures six times since scoring 10 for then Scottish League One side Alloa Athletic in 2017/18.
A number of clubs had been in dialogue with Stewart's representatives this summer, including several in the English second-tier, however, it appears it will be the Vitality Stadium that proves to be the 30-year-old's next port of call.
