Swansea City have confirmed centre-back Cameron Burgess will miss the entire 2026/27 season because of a ruptured Achilles.
Burgess suffered the injury when landing after jumping for a header before limping off during Swansea's EFL Cup loss to Birmingham City.
The 30-year-old played every minute of Swansea's league campaign last season after joining from Ipswich Town and represented Australia at this summer's FIFA World Cup.
His extended absence leaves a substantial void at the heart of Vitor Matos' defence. In the short-term, new signing Stephen Welsh and academy ace Filip Lissah are in contention to partner captain Ben Cabango, but it's largely expected that Swansea will dip back into the transfer market before the window concludes.

The New Zealand international is yet to make a competitive appearance for the East Midlands outfit, but he enjoyed a rewarding loan spell at Sheffield United last term where he recovered from a difficult start to win over Chris Wilder and improve significantly as the season progressed.
Forest's purchase of Ousmane Diomande further clouds Bindon's pathway at the City Ground, and another loan move likely beckons.
Naturally right-footed, he can operate on either side and is tremendous in possession, oozing the composure to play out under pressure.
Matai Akinmboni
Still an unknown despite his switch from DC United to Bournemouth in January 2025, American defender Matai Akinmboni is set for a loan spell away from the Vitality Stadium.
A combative, ball-playing centre-back, the left-footed 19-year-old was highly regarded in the MLS following his emergence in Washington, with Bournemouth tracking his progress for several months before making their move.
A lack of total minutes raises concerns as to whether he's ready to compete in a relentless Championship campaign, but Akinmboni certainly has the attributes to suggest he can hold his own.
