Sheffield United legend Billy Sharp has revealed that he is keen to extend his playing career into next season.
The 40-year-old striker has spent the last two seasons with Doncaster Rovers after arriving from Hull City in the summer of 2024.
He was part of the team that won promotion from League Two in the 2024/25 season, whilst he scored 14 times last season as the club stablised themselves in League One.
Sharp is now a free agent and was tipped to make the move into coaching but quotes in the Sheffield Star suggest that he is not finished on the playing side just yet.
"I want to play on. I want to carry on," said Sharp in an interview on Sheffield United's annual golf day.
"I scored 14 goals last season and finished with a hat-trick. I'm a free agent and I want to play football.
"If something's there that's right for me and my family, that's the thing. It's got to be right for me and the family because I've been selfish in my career, which I think you have to be.
“Obviously we went to America last time [with LA Galaxy] and I don't regret that one. But if it's not to be, then I've had a great career and I'll move on to the next thing."
Sharp's experience would be invaluable for a number of teams in the EFL next season but he is yet to secure a move.
The veteran forward has also been linked with a move back to Sheffield United in a coaching capacity if his playing days reach a conclusion.
Sharp represented the Baldes across three separate spells during his career and scored a total of 109 goals in 282 league appearances.
He is still held in high-regard at the club and he remains a fans' favourite after playing a major role in the club progressing from League One to the Premier League.
Sharp's possible return would be an emotional one but the priority, for now, seems to be continuing scoring goals rather than moving into coaching.
