Scottish Championship: Format

The Scottish Championship is a 10-team league, with each participating team playing each other on four occasions during the season - twice at home and twice away.

The team who finishes in 1st place achieves automatic promotion to the Premiership as champions, with the team finishing in 10th automatically relegated to League One.

Promotion from the Championship can also be achieved via play-offs, with the teams ranked second to fourth engaging in play-offs, with the final against the 11th-placed side in the Premiership.

The Championship team who finishes in ninth place contests a relegation play-off against a team from League One.

  • All-time top goalscorer: Stephen Dobbie (69)
