A hugely disappointing start to the season has continued for Rangers after they were dumped out of the UEFA Europa League following a 3-2 aggregate defeat to Jagiellonia Bialystok.
The Gers had taken the lead in Poland last week but two goals from Kajetan Szmyt had given Jagiellonia Bialystok a narrow advantage heading into the second leg.
Despite the 2-1 defeat and taking just one point from their opening two Scottish Premiership fixtures, Rangers were still the favourites to progress as manager Derek McInnes aimed to record a first competitive victory in charge.
The Scottish giants did start the second leg very much on the front foot and were rewarded for their dominance as captain Lawrence Shankland scored his first goal for the club from the penalty spot.
While the hosts searched for a winner as the tie remained finely poised, it was the Polish side that stunned the majority of the fans at Ibrox as Nic Prelec rose highest to head home and restore Jagiellonia Bialystok's advantage.
Rangers really struggled to respond and will now drop down to the UEFA Conference League after missing out on a place in the play-off round.
It is now four competitive fixtures without a win for Rangers and McInnes already find himself under pressure in the Ibrox hotseat.
