Chelsea v Leeds United Prediction: Blues to prevail in 15/8 end-to-end battle

Chelsea will look to return to winning ways when they welcome Leeds United to Stamford Bridge in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

The Blues had made a perfect start under new manager Xabi Alonso until they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday in the Premier League.

Chelsea had beaten Fulham, Luton and Brighton before that setback and they will need to be at their best against a Leeds side that has yet to lose this season under Daniel Farke this term.

The two teams met in April in the FA Cup semi-finals, with Chelsea winning 1-0 at Wembley and Alonso's team will hope to repeat that success in the capital in midweek.

Chelsea v Leeds United

Chelsea v Leeds United Prediction

Best Bet: Chelsea to win and both teams to score @ 15/8

Chelsea were not expected to be title contenders this season, but for large parts of the first half against Arsenal, they proved they could mix it with the best team in the country.

Arsenal were flustered on several occasions and eventually found a way to win, but Chelsea should take plenty of confidence from that game, even in defeat.

Before that, the Blues picked up an impressive 4-3 win over Brighton and they should have too much strength in depth for Leeds to handle.

Chelsea have only kept one clean sheet this season and should struggle to contain a Leeds side that have scored in all four of their games.

However, Leeds have only scored more than one goal in one of those outings and with Farke set to make changes to his starting XI, it is hard to see his side overcoming Chelsea in this EFL Cup tie.

Alternative Bet: Over 3.5 cards in the match @ 8/11

Games between Chelsea and Leeds are often passionate affairs and this should be no different.

Both managers are set to tweak their starting XIs, meaning players have a point to prove to earn more first-team minutes in the Premier League.

Seven yellow cards were brandished at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-final between the pair, while eight were dished out in the last meeting at Stamford Bridge in February.

Leeds will put everything on the line in order to progress into the next round, so expect referee Jarred Gillett to be busy.

Chelsea v Leeds United Bet Builder Tip

  • Danny Welbeck 2+ shots on target

  • Lukas Nmecha 2+ shots

  • Ethan Ampadu 2+ fouls committed

    Pays 9/2

Chelsea's Danny Welbeck started the club's last game in the competition and got on the scoresheet in the 2-0 win over Luton. Welbeck fired four shots during that game and hit the target twice.

He should see plenty of the ball on Wednesday, so he should be able to maintain his consistency in front of goal.

At the opposite end of the pitch, Lukas Nmecha should also be busy. The German has registered six shots in three games, despite featuring as a substitute in two of those matches.

Team-mate Ethan Ampadu has already committed five fouls this season and he will be happy to stick his foot in against his former club. Ampadu, as Leeds captain, will look to lead by example, and his physical approach should see him concede multiple free-kicks.
