Preston North End are closing in on the permanent signing of Alfie Devine from Tottenham Hotspur.
Devine was a popular figure at Deepdale last season where he emerged as one of the standout players in the Championship.
During his time on loan from Tottenham, Devine scored a total of eight goals in 45 league appearances.
A number of clubs have been linked with moves for the midfielder since the end of the season, with Celtic amongst the teams who were looking to secure his signature.
However, Preston look to have won the race to sign the player, with journalist Alasdair Gold reporting that Devine is now having a medical.
Unlike last season, the deal for Devine will be a permanent one rather than a season-long loan arrangement.
It is believed that the transfer fee involved is around the £6 million mark.
The signing of Devine is a huge boost for Preston as pre-season gets underway for Paul Heckingbottom's side.
The Lilywhites finished 14th last season after starting the campaign well and they will be looking to challenge for a play-off position come May.
