Portsmouth are reportedly closing in on the high-profile capture of Serbian youth international striker Marko Milovanovic.
According to The News, Pompey have made significant inroads into agreeing a package with Spanish club Ameria having seen their initial bid for the frontman rebuffed.
However, the Championship club have since upped their initial £2.5 million offer and it appears that a resolution could now be near.
The Spaniards were understood to be holding out for around £4.2 million, although a compromise of around £3.5 million now seems to have been reached.
Portsmouth are on the hunt for new signings this summer as they seek to further cement their credentials in the second-tier having staved off the threat of relegation last term.
The club have already been linked with big money moves for the likes of Dundee's Luke Graham and Fredrikstad's Rocco Shein, with the latter of those expected to complete a move to Fratton Park in the coming hours.
Whilst Pompey appear to have missed out in the battle for Scottish defender Graham, they are growing increasingly confident of capturing Milovanovic with reports in Spain suggesting the player could undergo his medical in Hampshire over the weekend.
The 22-year-old joined Almeria from Partizan Belgrade in the summer of 2022, but spent last season on loan at Portuguese top-flight side Alvecra, for whom he netted double figures for the first time in his career.
