AC Milan suffered one of the most famous heartbreaks in the history of European football on the night of the 25th May, 2005.
With Carlo Ancelotti at the helm, the Rossoneri had comfortably topped their group in the UEFA Champions League, finishing three points ahead of Barcelona.
A trip to Old Trafford in the round of 16 followed, and Milan claimed a 1-0 victory against Manchester United courtesy of a second half goal from Hernan Crespo before the Argentine struck again in the return fixture to move into the last eight.
A cross City derby awaited the club in the quarter-finals but Inter ultimately offered little resistance over the course of two legs, with the second game at the San Siro abandoned when Dida was struck by a firework from the stands.
PSV threatened to prematurely end Milan's ambitions of reaching Istanbul, and the Eredivisie side came within touching distance of a historic upset before a stoppage-time goal from Massimo Ambrosini was enough to put them through on away goals.
Despite taking a three-goal lead in the final at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium, Milan would go on to be defeated in one of the most famous comebacks in sporting history as a Steven Gerrard inspired Liverpool went on to win on penalties.
Despite falling at the final hurdle AC Milan's team in the 2004-05 season is packed with legendary players and is widely regarded as one of the most iconic in football history.
But who joins Dida as part of the starting XI? Read on to find out.
