Buffalo Bills v Detroit Lions Prediction, Tips and Bet Builder

The Buffalo Bills and the Detroit Lions have two of the most exciting offences in the NFL and that should make for an entertaining clash at Highmark Stadium on Thursday night.

While the name remains the same as their old home, Buffalo's new $2 billion facility is a major upgrade and the local fans should create a fantastic atmosphere for this attractive match-up.

Both teams will consider themselves to be title contenders this season and they kicked off their campaigns with victories. The Bills beat the Texans 36-31, while the Lions held off a late rally from the Saints to win their opener 31-30.

Buffalo Bills v Detroit Lions Prediction

Best Bet - Over 54.5 points @ 5/6

The Bills and Lions can launch the home team's new stadium in style with a high-scoring clash on Thursday night.

The teams' opening games were among the most points-filled contests in Week 1. The Bills combined with the Texans for 67 points and the Lions and Saints tallied 61.

While this is the highest game total line of the week, it looks fully justified.

The Bills put up a high score despite facing one of the league's leading defences, and both teams also showed they still have work to do defensively, so there should be plenty of scoring to kick off Week 2.

Alternative Bet - Josh Allen over 255.5 passing yards @ 20/23

Bills quarterback Josh Allen was the NFL regular-season MVP in 2024 and finished third in the voting on the league's top player last season, and he looks set for another strong campaign.

Allen threw for 334 yards against a tough Texans defence last week, and he looks capable of posting at least 256 against the Lions.

Detroit gave up a worrying 410 passing yards to the Saints' Tyler Shough, and while Allen is unlikely to match the New Orleans man's 56 attempted passes, he should have plenty of success through the air.

Buffalo Bills v Detroit Lions Bet Builder Tip

  • DJ Moore anytime touchdown scorer

  • Dalton Kincaid over 51.5 receiving yards

  • CJ Gardner-Johnson over 3.5 tackles

Pays 31/4

Start a three-leg bet builder on the first game of NFL Week 2 by taking Bills wide receiver DJ Moore to score a touchdown.

Moore has already bagged his first score for his new team since arriving from the Chicago Bears in an off-season trade, making a 43-yard touchdown reception against the Texans and he was targeted more times than any other Bills receiver when having a 100-yard game on his debut.

Tight end Dalton Kincaid led the team in receiving yards with an impressive 130 from just five catches and he looks set to play a prominent role in the Buffalo offence this season. Take him to have at least 52 receiving yards against the Lions.

The Lions are also likely to attempt plenty of long passes given that Houston had plenty of success when looking deep downfield against Buffalo and that could mean another busy night for Buffalo safety CJ Gardner-Johnson. He had six solo tackles against the Texans and looks good to make at least four against Detroit.

Tactics, Form and Team News

The Bills beat the Texans in their first game and have a fairly clean bill of health for their second contest.

Their main injury concerns are safety Cole Bishop (knee, groin), back-up running back Ty Johnson (hamstring), and defensive tackle TJ Sanders (knee, illness), who are listed as questionable.

Linebackers Terrel Bernard (calf) and Bradley Chubb (thumb) and safety Jordan Hancock (quad) are expected to play.

The Lions, who beat the Saints in Week 1, will be without two offensive linemen in Buffalo after ruling out left guard Christian Mahogany (hip) and rookie right tackle Blake Miller (hip). Ben Bartch and Larry Borom are expected to replace them.

Cornerback DJ Reed is rated questionable with a foot issue, but centre Juice Scruggs (knee) and cornerback Christian Izien (groin) should be fit to play.
