Next prime minister odds as Andy Burnham takes over from Keir Starmer

Take a look at the latest odds to be the next prime minister as Andy Burnham took the reins from Keir Starmer.

Starmer announced his resignation after two years of a challenging premiership, and while he was undoubtedly hampered by the difficult economic conditions he inherited, there were unforced errors -- such as the decision to means test the winter fuel allowance -- which led to his demise.

The popular Burnham ran to stand as a member of parliament for Makerfield, winning the recent by-election and succeeding Starmer in Downing Street.

The latest controversy surrounding Reform UK and financial gifts received by leader Nigel Farage -- which prompted his resignation only to immediately re-stand in an essentially uncontested by-election -- have seen Reform drift out to 9/4 second favourites for most seats in the next election with Labour 6/4.

Even if Labour fail to secure a majority, they would likely form a minority government, meaning it could be a while before the premiership changes hands again.

As such, Farage is 15/8 favourite to be next prime minister with Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch 4/1. The shortest-priced Labour MP is home secretary Shabana Mahmood at 9/1.
