Manchester will elect a new mayor after prime minister-elect Andy Burnham vacated his position following his victory in the Makerfield by-election.
Burnham served as Greater Manchester mayor for almost a decade before returning to Westminster and cut an extremely popular figure in the north during his tenure.
By law, an MP cannot sit in the House of Commons and hold a metropolitan mayor role that has powers over local policing.
He is widely expected to succeed Sir Kier Starmer as prime minister in the next few months and, in the meantime, the people of Manchester will vote on a new mayor.
Voters will head to the polls at the end of July, with anyone wishing to announce their candidacy having to do so within 35 days of the position becoming vacant. The nomination period therefore sits between 10:00 BST on 26th June all the way up until 16:00 on 3rd July.
The betting suggests that Labour have an extremely strong chance of retaining the mayoralty, currently priced at 1/25 to get a candidate in place.
Nigel Farage's Reform UK -- the party thought to be Labour's main danger at the next general election -- are 7/1.
