Take a look at the latest odds to be the next leader of the Green Party after their defeat in the Holborn and St Pancras by-election.
Incumbent Zack Polanski stood for election in the seat vacated by former prime minister Keir Starmer but lost by more than 3,000 votes to Labour's Sagal Abdi-Wali, putting pressure on the party leader.
While one way of looking at the result is that the Greens more than tripled their vote share from the 2024 general election, another way to look at it is that independent Andrew Feinstein didn't stand, freeing up more than 7,000 votes, and that Labour's vote share hardly shifted from two years ago.
While Polanski was able to present the Greens as a genuine left-wing alternative to the unpopular Starmer's Labour, Andy Burnham taking over as Labour leader will see the party leak votes back towards the centre.
Indeed, as per YouGov polling, Polanski's net favourability has fallen from -10 when taking over the party to -29 as of 10th September.
With speculation around Polanski's future as party leader, member of parliament for North Herefordshire and parliamentary party leader Ellie Chowns is 9/4 favourite to take over, ahead of the prominent Hannah Spencer (4/1), MP for Gorton and Denton.
