Australian Open Men

The first Grand Slam of the year sees the world's best players head Down Under for the Australian Open.

Take a look at the most successful players in the tournament's history below.

Most men's Australian Open titles (Open Era)

Novak Djokovic - 10 titles

The most successful player in Australian Open history, Novak Djokovic won 10 Australian Open titles between 2009 and 2023.

It's a Slam he dominated like no other; between 2011 and 2023, Djokovic's record Down Under read 72 wins and just three defeats.

Roger Federer - 6 titles

Since surpassed by Djokovic, Roger Federer was the most successful male tennis player in Australian Open, winning his fifth and sixth titles in 2017 and 2018 after his initial period of dominance where he won four between 2004 and 2010. Federer is only the second man to have won an Australian Open without dropping a set.

Andre Agassi - 4 titles

Despite choosing not to participate in the Australian Open for much of his career, Andre Agassi held the record for the most men's singles titles after his 2003 victory.

Agassi won his first Australian Open in 1995 -- his maiden appearance in the event -- before going back-to-back in 2000 and 2001.

Mats Wilander - 3 titles

Interestly, Mats Wilander holds the distinction of being the only man to have won the Australian Open on both grass and hardcourts. Winning his first two in 1983 and 1984, Wilander then won the first hardcourt Australian Open in 1988.

Eleven players have won the Australian Open twice: Ken Rosewall, John Newcombe, Guillermo Vilas, Johan Kriek, Stefan Edberg, Ivan Lendl, Boris Becker, Jim Courier, Pete Sampras, Rafael Nadal, Jannik Sinner.

Most women's Australian Open titles (Open Era)

Serena Williams - 7 titles

Although Margaret Court holds the record for the most female singles titles at the Australian Open, most of hers came in the amateur era.

As such, Serena Williams holds the record for the most titles in the Open Era, with seven, between 2003 and 2017.

Margaret Court - 4 titles

Prior to the Open Era, Margaret Court won seven Australian Open (then the Australian Championships) titles, winning four of the first five events in the Open Era.

Evonne Goolagong - 4 titles

Remarkably reaching six straight finals, Evonne Goolagong finally won the Australian Open at the fourth time of asking, technically winning the title in four straight years owing to the second Australian Open in 1977.

Steffi Graf - 4 titles

One of the greatest female tennis players of all time, Steffi Graf won a Slam in 10 straight years, and won the Australian Open in three consecutive years from 1988 to 1990, capturing a fourth crown in 1994.

Monica Seles - 4 titles

But for the tragic stabbing of Monica Seles in 1993, the four-time Australian Open winner would likely have won even more titles.

Seles dethroned Graf in the early 1990s, and won each of the first four tournaments she entered Down Under between 1991 and 1996.
