Most Australian Open matches won

Find out which male and female tennis players have won the most matches in Australian Open history.

Most men's Australian Open matches won

Roger Federer - 102 wins

Although he will likely be joined by Novak Djokovic shortly, Roger Federer remains the only player, male or female, to have won 100+ Australian Open singles matches, doing so between 2000 and 2020.

Novak Djokovic - 99 wins

To put Novak Djokovic's 99 wins into context, if you played in 14 consecutive Australian Opens and won every single one of them, you'd still be one shy of Djokovic.

It's likely a matter of time before he joins Federer in the 100 club, and he'll have his sights set on overtaking the Swiss.

Rafael Nadal - 77 wins

Although he may have only triumphed in Melbourne twice, Rafael Nadal was remarkably consistent at the Australian Open, reaching the quarter-finals in 14 of his 15 appearances between 2007 and 2022.

Stefan Edberg - 56 wins

Although Stefan Edberg only won two Australian Opens, he racked up the wins by reaching the semi-finals on three occasions as well as being on the losing side of three finals.

Andy Murray - 51 wins

Arguably the unluckiest player in tennis history, Andy Murray shared the court with not one, not two, but three of the greatest players to ever play the game. Winning the fifth-most matches in Australian Open history, Murray was never quite able to get over the winning line in Melbourne.

Most women's Australian Open matches won

Serena Williams - 92 wins

To go with her seven wins, Serena Williams also reached four quarter-finals, a semi-final and an eighth final, winning by far the most matches at the Australian Open of any female in history.

Maria Sharapova - 57 wins

Reaching four straight semi-finals between 2005 and 2008, Maria Sharapova would go on to reach three more between 2012 and 2015, winning the second most matches in Australian Open history.

Lindsay Davenport - 56 wins

Remarkably, Lindsay Davenport reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open in nine of her 10 appearances between 1995 and 2005, reaching the final six times, and yet never managed to get hold of the trophy.

Venus Williams - 54 wins

Although she never won the Australian Open, Venus Williams did appear at the event 21 times between 1998 and 2021, reaching two finals.

Martina Hingis - 52 wins

Although Martina Hingis only appeared at the Australian Open 10 times in her career, she did win the event three times between 1998 and 2000, and reached the final in the proceeding three years.
